Japanese authorities are searching for a bear that entered the residence of an elderly couple on Monday and raided their refrigerator in the city of Shizuokushi. There are suspicions that the animal has broken into 14 other homes over the past two weeks.
Incidents and Official Response
Mitsuo Matsubara, 87, discovered the Asiatic brown bear after hearing noises from the kitchen. The animal left the refrigerator door open and scattered food across the floor. Authorities have recorded break-ins in five locations in this city and suspect the bear is responsible for these incidents. Consequently, traps have been set, electric fences have been installed around the invaded homes, and patrols have been mobilized to alert residents about the animal's presence.
