She emphasized that her career has focused on strengthening the profession through education, including transforming curricula, developing optometry programs, expanding professional scope, and developing teaching staff. Her nomination was supported by Professor Ingrid Metsing, Director of Public Health at the South African Optometrists Association, who described Mudli as a respected scholar whose work has influenced both the academic environment and clinical practice.
Previously, Mudli served as the Chairperson of the Professional Council for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians of South Africa, where she helped introduce standardized quality assurance measures in optometric education and strengthened requirements for continuing professional development. Additionally, she supervised master's and doctoral students from ten different countries.
Research and Activities
Mudli holds a PhD in Optometric Education and conducted doctoral research in several African countries. Her scholarly work incorporated the concept of social responsibility into the evaluation of optometric education programs. She believes that a successful optometric education program should ultimately be measured by its impact on improving community eye care needs.
Mudli also participated in the WCO Committee on Legislation, Regulation, and Standards, contributing to international research on optometric education, legislation, and public health. She led curriculum development workshops for educators in the Philippines, Lebanon, and South Africa.
