The development of bilateral relations in the modern system of international relations is an important condition for stability and economic progress not only for these two countries but for the entire region. The visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to the Republic of Belarus at the invitation of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, which took place on July 8-9, was an event of great political and economic significance, opening a new chapter in the history of relations between the two states.
High-Level Negotiations in Minsk
The high-level negotiations held in the city of Minsk demonstrated a clear example of high trust and mutual respect between the leaders of the two countries. It was noted that the multifaceted relations between the states have reached a new qualitative stage during productive discussions held in a small circle with the participation of official delegations.
Establishment of Strategic Partnership
The main and historic result of the visit was the signing of a declaration on establishing a strategic partnership. As the leader of Uzbekistan noted, this fundamental document marks the beginning of a new era in strengthening interstate cooperation and officially confirms the parties' firm commitment to the long-term development of multilateral partnership.
Furthermore, alignment on issues of activating political dialogue and strengthening parliamentary cooperation will strengthen the positions of both countries on the international arena. The parties stated their readiness to continue mutual support in authoritative international and regional organizations such as the UN, CIS, and SCO, which indicates the convergence of Uzbekistan's and Belarus' positions in global political processes.
Economic and Trade Cooperation
Successes in the economic and industrial trade spheres also occupied a significant place in the program of the visit. The volume of mutual trade is steadily growing: over the past five years, this indicator has increased almost threefold, reaching 1 billion dollars by the end of last year. In the remaining part of the current year, the turnover volume increased by another 30%, while 360 joint enterprises are successfully operating.
One of the most important agreements reached before and during the summit was the adoption of a comprehensive plan of measures and new project initiatives aimed at increasing the turnover volume to 2 billion dollars. The main focus is on transitioning from simple trade to large-scale industrial cooperation. The implementation of new joint projects is planned in the sectors of agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, microelectronics, textile industry, light industry, and furniture industry.
Another strategic agreement concerns the use of peaceful nuclear energy. Uzbekistan expressed interest in utilizing Belarusian experience in the construction of the first nuclear power plant and associated infrastructure, and a specific agreement on mutual exchange of experience was reached on this matter.
Preparation and Cultural Exchange
The successful execution of the visit was made possible by thorough preparation, including meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Council of Ministers, political consultations, and meetings of analytical groups during the visit. Of particular importance was the Third Uzbekistan-Belarus Regional Forum held in Minsk, which stimulated the development of economic ties from the grassroots up. About 230 entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan participated in the forum, and packages of trade contracts and investment agreements were signed as a result.
These agreements create direct economic chains between the regions and cities of the two countries, which contributes to the creation of new jobs and increased income for the population. Furthermore, the visit contributed to strengthening the cultural and spiritual closeness of the peoples. A vivid confirmation of this was the high-level holding of Uzbek Culture Days in Belarus. During the negotiations, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed special gratitude to Alexander Lukashenko for the initiative to create the Friendship Street Uzbekistan-Belarus in Minsk, which will become a symbol of eternal friendship and unity between the two peoples.
Conclusion on Partnership
Thus, this historic visit has elevated bilateral relations to a new, strategic level. The negotiations conducted in an atmosphere of high trust and the signed declaration will contribute to strengthening cooperation in political, parliamentary, and international spheres. The creation of the Friendship Street in Minsk and the holding of cultural events will further strengthen the spiritual bridges between the peoples, making these agreements an important condition for the development and well-being of not only the two countries but also the entire region.
