Stellenbosch FC has strengthened its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season by securing agreements with three players: defender Terrence Mashigo, midfielder George Matlu, and young goalkeeper Nathan Harrow.
Terrence Mashigo joins the club on a one-year loan, while Matlu and Harrow have signed long-term permanent contracts.
Mashigo moves to Stellies from Mamelodi Sundowns. The left-back for the Bafana Bafana team previously fell out of favor with Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso and spent last season on loan at Durban City. At Durban City, he showed exceptional play, playing a key role in the team reaching the top eight and winning the Nedbank Cup, which secured their participation in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
Stellenbosch FC Chief Executive Officer Rob Benadi expressed confidence that Mashigo's experience will help the team move forward, given his track record which includes participation in the CAF Champions League with Sundowns and appearances for South Africa at the African Cup of Nations (Afcon). Benadi stated: 'Terrence is a player who has played at the highest level both domestically and internationally. We believe he possesses the ability and quality to bring significant benefit to our squad. We are absolutely delighted to welcome him to the club.'
Matlu moved to the Western Cape as a free agent after leaving Kaizer Chiefs. Although he celebrated a Nedbank Cup victory during his time at Naturena, his career was significantly disrupted by frequent injuries. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old footballer has extensive experience in the top division, including successful spells at Moroka Swallows and Portuguese club Sanjoanense before moving to Chiefs.
Benadi noted that 'George is a player who, in our opinion, can bring real value to our squad due to his experience, technical skills, and deep understanding of the game. His track record speaks for itself, and we are naturally pleased that he has decided to continue his career at Stellenbosch. We believe he will play an important role in achieving our goals this season.'
Furthermore, Stellies has solidified its future by signing New Zealand goalkeeper Harrow on a permanent transfer from Auckland City. The 21-year-old keeper is expected to serve as a backup to main goalkeeper Sage Stephens following the retirement of Lee Langeveldt and the departure of Oscarina Masuluke. Benadi concluded his statement by saying: 'We are happy to welcome Nathan to Stellenbosch. He is a talented young goalkeeper with huge potential, and his performances over the last year have demonstrated that he has the quality to succeed at a high level.
