Despite the presence of large sharks in South Africa, they are not the largest discovered in the Atlantic Ocean. This title belongs to an animal named Contender, which reaches 14 feet (4.3 meters) and inhabits the eastern coast of the United States.
Shark Migration Monitoring
In January of last year, the non-profit environmental organization OCEARCH tagged it. Since then, researchers have been tracking the animal's life at sea to study its migration routes. In a year and a half since the tag was placed, the shark has traveled over 1610 kilometers along the eastern coast of America, appearing off the coasts of Florida and reaching Quebec.
