Despite the end of the 60-day exemption, Iran assures that its oil exports are proceeding normally, with no forecast for interruptions, as stated by Pakneyad on his Telegram channel.
The Iranian minister informed that the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum has established systems over the years designed to bypass restrictions imposed by the United States. He emphasized that these structures have never been dismantled, not even while the temporary waiver was active.
According to Clause 10 of the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington in mid-June—a document that provided for a ceasefire—the United States had agreed to suspend sanctions on Iranian oil for a period of 60 days, time allocated for negotiating a final peace agreement.
However, Washington revoked the permission that temporarily suspended these sanctions the previous week. This decision was made in reaction to what the US considered 'totally unacceptable' actions by Tehran in the Strait of Hormuz, following several attacks on vessels transiting the maritime route.
The Iranian minister accused the Americans of failing to uphold their usual agreements, alleging that, in practice, Article 10 of the memorandum of understanding regarding the 60-day exemptions had been violated.
On Monday night, the American President, Donald Trump, announced the resumption of the naval blockade against the Islamic Republic starting that day. This measure had already been applied between mid-April and June, in response to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz after the conflict began on February 28.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, president of the Iranian parliament, recently admitted that during the previous blockade, Iran's oil exports were almost paralyzed.
The reactivation of the naval blockade occurs in a context of high tension between the two countries. This escalation is motivated by Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and US attacks on military targets located in southern Iran. In response, Iran fired missiles and drones at American military bases in countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
