Legal Aid South Africa expressed approval of the Parliament's decision to participate in the labor dispute after concerns arose regarding the impact of this dispute on the justice system.
Reasons for Parliamentary Intervention
This decision followed the Justice and Constitutional Development Committee noting that the issues raised by the South African Lawyers Association and Allied Workers Union (SALAWU) require immediate attention to ensure the proper functioning of the justice system. In response to inquiries from IOL, Legal Aid SA stated that it values the ongoing interest of Parliament and other stakeholders in matters concerning access to justice.
