Romain Gregorier aims for success at Tour de France despite the dominance of stars

Currently, Gregorier is in 60th position, trailing the race leader Tadej Pogačar by a quarter of an hour. On Thursday's Pyrenean mountain stage, he finished in tears, more than 40 minutes behind Pogačar, as he struggled to keep up with the powerful sprinters of the peloton.

Expectations and Prospects

Despite the difficulties, Gregorier stated that he believes it is possible to restore a sufficiently good physical condition to remain competitive on certain stages. He noted that only world stars win every Tour de France and added that although the situation is difficult, they are not going to lose hope.

For the tenth stage of the Tour de France, scheduled for Tuesday, Gregorier continues to wear the yellow jersey of the French champion. He admitted that this is the biggest race in the world, which everyone dreams of, and it is normal that only the best win.

Results of the First Stages

Over the first nine stages, four-time champion Pogačar won twice. The Belgian sprinter Tim Merlier also won one stage. Former world champions Mathieu van der Poel and Mads Pedersen each secured one victory. Furthermore, two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard ensured a victory for his team Visma-Lease a Bike in the team time trial. Two other stages were won by young riders Isaac Del Toro and Olaf Kuy.

Gregorier added that such dominance has been observed over the last two or three years since his first participation in the Tour de France in 2024. Nevertheless, he understands that this is a natural course of events, especially considering that the upcoming stage on July 14 will be extremely difficult and designed for pure climbers.
