President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that Sergeli has transformed from a peripheral area of Tashkent into one of the dynamically developing districts of the capital.
Socio-economic development of the district
During a meeting dedicated to the socio-economic progress of Tashkent, the head of state reported that over the past decade, residential buildings housing 30 thousand apartments have been constructed in Sergeli. Additionally, 2 million square meters of industrial, commercial, and service facilities have been created.
The economic activity of the district has significantly increased: the number of entrepreneurs grew from 2.5 thousand to 6.2 thousand, and revenue to the district budget rose from 382 billion to 2.2 trillion soums.
Infrastructure changes and territorial expansion
Five large parks and recreation areas have also appeared in Sergeli. Thanks to the annexation of 13 arrays of the Tashkent region, the total area of Sergeli has increased by 1.8 thousand hectares, reaching 5.6 thousand hectares. The district has been integrated into the city network with a new nineteen-kilometer metro line, which includes eight stations.
Educational and medical infrastructure has also developed: the number of places in schools has increased from 25 thousand to 38.5 thousand, and in kindergartens—from 7.5 thousand to 15.5 thousand. Furthermore, 50 state and private clinics operate in the district.
Prospects and existing problems
Despite the achievements, the president pointed out persistent problems in Sergeli concerning the condition of roads, water supply and sewage systems, electricity supply, and transport. It was previously announced that 2026 will be the 'Year of accelerated development and income growth for the population' for Tashkent. Within these plans, an agro-logistics and warehouse complex worth 70 million dollars is scheduled to be commissioned in the Sergeli district.
