Residents of South Africa can expect cold and mostly dry weekends in the central regions, while coastal areas prepare for isolated or scattered rain.
Overall Weather Across the Country
Most of South Africa should experience dry but cool weather, as precipitation will mainly be limited to the southern and eastern parts of the coast due to a weak coastal weather front persisting over the country.
Friday Forecast
According to the South African Weather Service, Friday is expected to be mostly clear in the central regions, including Gauteng, Free State, North West, Limpopo, and most of Mpumalanga. Morning fog is forecast in some parts of Gauteng, and temperatures in the central and southern inland areas will remain cool or cold.
The probability of precipitation on Friday is only 30% and is limited to isolated showers and light rain along the southern coast of the Western Cape, the East Coast, and parts of the KwaZulu-Natal coastal belt. The rest of the country is expected to remain dry.
Continuation of Weather Conditions
The weather pattern will continue into Saturday, with sunny conditions prevailing in the inland provinces. However, coastal areas from the Western Cape through the East Coast to KwaZulu-Natal will continue to experience cloudier weather.
Forecasts show a probability of precipitation ranging from 30% to 60% along parts of the southern and eastern coasts, especially in the Eastern Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal, where isolated showers and light rain are expected. By Sunday, inland areas will remain mostly sunny and cool, while rain will persist along the coast.
The highest probability of precipitation is expected along the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coasts, where a 60% chance of rain is forecast in some places. In other coastal areas, the chances of rain remain around 30%.
Other Weather Phenomena
Strong coastal winds are also expected in some places along the southern coast during the weekend, and fog may reduce visibility in the morning and evening in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape.
Temperatures will remain cool or cold in many regions of the country, especially in the Free State, inland Eastern Cape, and Western Cape, while warmer conditions are expected in the Lowveld of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Despite the coastal rains, no severe weather warnings, fire danger alerts, or weather advisories have been issued for the weekend.
