Flipkart, a Walmart subsidiary, has announced its intention to deepen long-term investments in the state of West Bengal. The company emphasized that this region hosts Flipkart's largest logistics and warehousing center in India and remains a critical element of its future growth strategy.
Flipkart stated that its largest order processing center is located in West Bengal. This campus in Harinagar features warehouse capacity of 5 million cubic feet spread across six levels and is equipped with automated storage and retrieval systems, robotic packing manipulators, cross-belt sorting conveyors, and a nine-kilometer conveyor network.
This facility is the first order processing center in India of this scale to receive Platinum Level certification from the Indian Green Building Council. Overall, the company manages over 300 order fulfillment centers, mother hubs, and last-mile delivery points across West Bengal, employing more than 120,000 people in operations, technology, delivery, and support.
Furthermore, the company creates thousands of temporary jobs during the annual Big Billion Days sale. Flipkart has expanded its quick commerce business, Flipkart Minutes, in the state by opening 90 micro fulfillment centers, which has led to the creation of nearly 10,000 jobs. The company's supply chain includes over 500 farmers from West Bengal who supply fresh fruits and vegetables.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO of Flipkart Group, noted that West Bengal has long established itself as one of India's leading centers for entrepreneurship, innovation, and craftsmanship, and today it is becoming a key node for digital trade. He expressed pride in the company's partnership in the state's development, emphasizing that investments in infrastructure, technology, and supply chains contribute to job creation, SME support, assistance to farmers, and providing thousands of entrepreneurs access to markets across India. He added that, as home to the country's largest fulfillment center, West Bengal will continue to play an important role in Flipkart's growth.
More than 66,000 sellers from West Bengal use the Flipkart marketplace to sell goods across India. Through the Flipkart Samarth program on the platform, about 29,000 products from the state's weavers and artisans are registered. In Shantipur, for example, over 250 Tant and Jamdani weavers and sellers generate an annual turnover exceeding 100 crore rupees through this platform.
