Despite numerous obstacles, including visa delays and flight cancellations, students from Nelson Mandela University, Juan Smith and Rudi Scholz, achieved outstanding success at the international Saint-Gobain Architecture Student Contest 2026 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Path to Victory and the Project
Their journey was fraught with serious logistical difficulties. However, despite all the challenges, they managed to present their project to the international jury. Their work focused on revitalizing a derelict coastal area in Belgrade. The project raised important questions about how architecture can restore community ties, enliven forgotten spaces, and lead to significant change.
