The board of directors of Akzo Nobel NV rejected the proposal from Nippon Paint Holdings Co. to acquire its decorative paints division. The company continues to recommend the previously agreed merger with Axalta Coating Systems Ltd.
Offer Valuation and Market Reaction
The new offer from Nippon values the business at 7.5 billion euros (equivalent to 8.6 billion US dollars). This comes after several attempts to acquire Akzo Nobel assets. On Monday, the Dutch paint manufacturer stated that the latest offer 'significantly undervalues' its paints division.
