Prime Minister Modi actively utilized cultural diplomacy by presenting gifts to foreign leaders that reflected India's rich cultural heritage.
Gifts in Australia and Indonesia
During his visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi presented the Speaker of Parliament, Puan Maharani, with a silk item made using the famous Ikat technique from the state of Odisha. This traditional handicraft is known for its intricate dyeing technique and vibrant patterns. This textile, produced in weaving centers such as Sambalpur, Nuapatna, and Bargadaj, symbolizes the cultural identity and rich craftsmanship of Odisha.
During his visit to Australia, Modi presented the Governor-General with a Madhubani painting from the Mithila region of Bihar state. This folk art uses natural pigments and a traditional style to depict peacocks and vegetation, conveying a message about nature, prosperity, environmental protection, and Indian folk culture.
Artworks from Different Regions
Furthermore, Modi gifted the wife of the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, a shawl of pure wool adorned with traditional Kashmiri embroidery. This shawl is made from high-quality wool and features delicate floral embroidery inspired by the natural beauty of the Kashmir valley, serving as an outstanding example of Kashmir's centuries-old textile and craft tradition.
The Prime Minister also presented two special gifts to Anthony Albanese. The first was a metal boat crafted in the Dhokra tribal art style, symbolizing one of India's oldest metalworking traditions. This boat was created using the lost-wax casting technique and depicts tribal men and women, conveying ideas of unity, cooperation, and collective progress.
The second gift for the Australian Prime Minister was an Indian Premium Coffee Box, containing selected premium coffee from leading producing regions in India. This gift highlights the development of India's coffee industry, the quality of Indian coffee, coffee cultivation, and the growing global recognition of Indian coffee.
Other Cultural Presents
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also presented the opposition leader of Australia with a carved wooden elephant made in Rajasthan. This sculpture, crafted from a single piece of wood, is a magnificent example of the fine craftsmanship of Indian artisans. In Indian culture, the elephant is revered as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity, and strength.
The Governor-General of Australia was presented with a box inlaid with marble, which is a fine example of India's Pietra Dura art. Intricate floral patterns are created by inlaying semi-precious stones into the marble, demonstrating the subtle art and highest skill of Indian masters.

Prime Minister Modi presented special gifts to two leaders of New Zealand. To Chris Luxon, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, a traditional headgear from Uttarakhand (Himalayan) was presented, symbolizing mountain culture, respect, and local traditions.
