The White House has appointed Avi Loeb, an astrophysicist from Harvard University, to chair the Scientific Advisory Board on UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena). This board was established by the White House in collaboration with the Pentagon, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI, and the intelligence community.
Board Objectives
The official purpose of the group is to produce science-based reports and provide guidance to the UAP Governing Council, aiming to clarify the nature of these unidentified anomalous phenomena.
Composition and Controversies
Loeb's qualifications are considered robust, and he has assembled a multidisciplinary team. The council includes not only physicists but also a pathologist, a computer scientist, a philosopher, a psychologist, and the founding editor of the journal Skeptic.
However, Loeb has faced criticism in recent years due to his repeated statements about finding evidence of extraterrestrial technology. These claims have led to his frequent appearances on television, but much of the scientific community publicly labels him as a charlatan, opportunist, or fraudster.
Although his credentials at Harvard and his long professional career grant him some credibility, he has made questionable claims about alien life since at least 2015. Currently, he is better known for arguing that Oumuamua was not an exo-comet, but rather an alien probe, and that small metallic spheres found in the ocean could be debris from an extraterrestrial vessel.
Release of UFO Files
On Friday (10th), the Pentagon released a new set of documents related to UFOs, also known as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs). Among the released materials is a testimony from a military pilot who described a mysterious object as being 'different from anything I had ever seen' after 28 years of service.
This release includes a total of 40 items: 14 documents, 19 videos, four audio files, and three images. The material comes from various agencies, including the Pentagon, NASA, CIA, FBI, and the Department of Energy. The Pentagon made these new files available on its dedicated UFO portal, which centralizes the content under an executive order signed by President Trump earlier this year.
