Instead of opting for the demolition of the original structure, the project implemented adaptive reuse. This approach was chosen for both ecological and social reasons, serving as an example of how underutilized buildings can be revitalized in areas of architectural value.
The intervention aims not only to regenerate the site but also to extend the durability of the existing construction, resulting in a home abundant in natural light.
The project named Jardins 95, developed by Iná Arquitetura, was conceived with the goal of converting a 100 square meter apartment into a space that evoked the feeling of a family residence.
This apartment is located at the back of a lot in the Jardins neighborhood, in the city of São Paulo. The property is part of a modest building, constructed in the 1940s, which has only three floors and does not have an elevator. The building structure is characterized by having a roof covered with French tiles.
The northern part of a dwelling is traditionally called the Kubera Corner and is associated with the deity of wealth, Lord Kubera. There is a belief that keeping this area clean, light, and organized helps improve the flow of positive energy in the house and ensures a good influx of financial resources. Therefore, special attention is paid to maintaining this sector.
According to Vastu principles, unnecessary items, clutter, or heavy objects should not be stored in the northern direction. Having disorder in this area can negatively affect the movement of positive energy. If this zone remains open, clean, and organized, the atmosphere becomes more harmonious and pleasant.
It is considered auspicious to place documents, safes, or financial storage units in the southwest corner of the house, provided their facade faces north. Furthermore, it is recommended to install a Kubera Yantra in the northern direction, as this is believed to enhance the positive energy related to prosperity and financial stability.
Vastu also prescribes placing small fountains, aquariums, mirrors, or decorative items in blue, green, and purple shades in the northern direction. The purpose of using these elements is to maintain balance and freshness in the home environment, but they should only be used if cleanliness and correct placement are observed.
If there is a bathroom in the northern part of the house, this is not considered an ideal placement from a Vastu perspective. In such cases, it is advised to use measures such as small mirrors or houseplants. It is also crucial to avoid placing heavy storage areas, useless items, or long-unused objects in this zone to keep the space active and organized.
