If consumers observe a dirty kitchen, stale food, or unsafe handling of products in a restaurant or food establishment, they can report it to the authorities.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is asking citizens to be its 'eyes' on the ground by submitting complaints about food safety violations through its Food Safety Connect platform. This platform allows claims to be registered with an attached photograph.
The regulator has intensified its consumer awareness campaign titled 'Be the Eyes of Food Safety.' It encourages citizens to report unsafe food, unsanitary kitchens, and poor food handling practices instead of ignoring such incidents.
The campaign urges consumers to turn awareness into real action by using the Food Safety Connect feature available on the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) platform. According to FSSAI, one photograph and a complaint can help authorities detect food safety violations and ensure timely regulatory measures.
Consumers can report contaminated or unsafe food, unsanitary kitchens, and improper product handling by uploading photographs and complaint details through this system. Complaints can be filed after logging in or via the consumer grievance option. This initiative is part of FSSAI's broader efforts to strengthen food safety surveillance by involving consumers in identifying violations in restaurants, eateries, food delivery points, and other food service establishments.
