The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced on Saturday that the official website of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has been integrated into the applications of various mobile operators operating in Egypt.
According to the ministry, this measure aims to simplify the online ticket booking process and enhance the level of secure access to the museum's digital services. This will allow millions of users to gain direct and protected access to the official website and book visits through a reliable and verified channel.
It was specified that the museum's official website is now accessible through the Vodafone application, which is the museum's official technology sponsor, as well as through the Orange, Etisalat, and WE (Telecom Egypt's subsidiary) applications. The ministry confirmed that this collaboration between GEM and mobile operators in Egypt is intended to improve visitor experience, increase cybersecurity levels, and protect the public from fraud on fake websites.
Furthermore, the ministry reported that the possibility of offering ticket payment options through mobile operator wallets, in addition to existing bank card payment methods, is currently being studied. This should provide more flexible and simple digital payment options and streamline the online booking process.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy stated that this initiative demonstrates the ministry's commitment to strengthening interaction between state structures and the private sector to provide safe and reliable digital services. This guarantees easy access for visitors to official channels and increases trust in electronic services.
He added that cooperation with mobile companies, which have extensive user bases and advanced digital platforms, contributes to expanding secure access to the official GEM website. Fathy emphasized the ministry's continuous support for initiatives that use technology to develop tourism services and protect user data.
The Director General of GEM, Ahmed Ghoneim, explained that this step is part of the museum's strategy to create an integrated digital system that prioritizes visitor safety and ease of access to services. He noted that having an official website through mobile operator applications represents an additional, reliable channel for booking visits and obtaining official information.
Ghoneim strongly advised the public to exercise caution and avoid interacting with unofficial websites or links from unknown sources, stressing that the museum's official website remains the only legitimate channel for booking and receiving all information regarding the museum.
