In July, Dr. Esthe Spice is celebrating her 40th birthday by organizing a fundraising campaign as part of Mandela Day. The goal of this initiative is to finance sterilization services for needy animals.
Campaign Goals and Plans
Spice, a veterinarian from the Animal Rescue Organization (ARO), aims to raise R67,000 by Saturday, July 18th. This amount will allow for 120 sterilization surgeries. According to Spice, every sterilization is significant because it prevents unwanted offspring, reduces suffering, and improves the well-being of animals in vulnerable communities.
ARO's Activities and Legacy
Spice noted that ARO has contributed to long-term change over the past 40 years through accessible veterinary care, educational programs, and sterilization programs. The organization operates its main veterinary clinic in Otter and runs mobile clinics in Philippi, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Mufuleni, and Samora Machel. Furthermore, ARO supports activities through several charity shops and organizes a monthly fair in Rondebosch Park.
Additional Appeals to the Public
In addition to supporting the fundraiser, ARO asks the public to donate 67 used items to its charity shop in Bergville before Mandela Day. Needed items include children's toys, clothing, winter jackets, shoes, books, kitchenware, household goods, jewelry, paintings, decor, bedding, blankets, household supplies, wool, fabric, gardening tools, working appliances, small furniture, collectibles and antiques, as well as pet supplies in clean, resaleable condition.
Funds collected through the charity shop help support ARO's ongoing work caring for needy animals. The public wishing to support Spice's campaign on Mandela Day can make a donation via the GivenGain platform. More detailed information about the campaign or ARO's work can be found on the Animal Rescue Organization's website.
