The local administration in Almería issued a warning to people who have not yet returned to their homes, stating that they should not go back to their residences for now.
Return Conditions and Notification
The administration announced that returning is only possible if certain conditions are met and after receiving permission from the authorities. According to the best forecasts, people may be able to return this afternoon or on Sunday.
Authorities in the Antas district asked residents to respect official announcements, clarifying that inhabitants will be notified when it is safe for them to return home. This issue was discussed among local political officials.
Situation of Displaced Persons
Twenty-four people, including children and adults, continue to reside in the old monastery. The administration guarantees these individuals food and sleeping conditions, which is being provided with the support of local businesses, trade, neighbors, and official structures.
Scale of the Forest Fire
The fire, which started in Los Gallardos (Almería) and claimed twelve lives, covered an area of 6,600 hectares. The blaze remained uncontrolled, forcing the expansion of the perimeter due to active hotspots and fronts.
Meteorological Conditions and Rescue Efforts
Despite the increase in the burned area, the Andalusian Advisor for the Presidency, Health, and Emergency, Antonio Sanz, confirmed from the command post that current meteorological conditions—a light wind at two kilometers per hour and 50% humidity—are opening a 'window of opportunity' for transitioning groups from containment measures to direct firefighting.
Authorities continue to confirm the death of 12 people, despite around twenty missing persons reports. Currently, 1,448 people have been evacuated from the zone, of whom 164 are housed in temporary centers. A total of 500 staff members and about ten aerial assets are working on site.
