Paraty is receiving a new cultural landmark with the opening of Sesc Caborê. This unit, located in a green area, will be inaugurated in August and will offer facilities for exhibitions, workshops, and performances.
The first phase of the delivery in Paraty is scheduled for August 12 and comprises a 3,000 square meter construction. The space was designed to include stages surrounded by native vegetation and situated near the Perequê-Açu river. The structure features areas dedicated to artistic training, including rooms for rehearsals and classes focused on music and dance, as well as studios for visual arts.
Almost 30 activities have already been scheduled, ranging from drawing workshops to percussion and choir performances. Many activities previously held in the Historic Center of Paraty will be transferred to Caborê, which offers a significantly larger environment than the old mansion used for courses and workshops.
According to the projection of the Sesc Paraty Sociocultural Hub, the Caborê unit will enable a threefold increase in the system's service in the city, raising the number of people served annually from 20,000 to 60,000. All offered activities are free, with priority given to merchants, and 30% of the spots are reserved for individuals with an income of up to two minimum monthly wages.
Additionally, on September 13, the date Sesc celebrates its 80th anniversary, there will be an exhibition featuring works by 30 local artists, curated by Carolina Rodrigues, who also serves as curator of the Bispo do Rosário Museum.
The facilities inaugurated in August represent only the initial phase of a larger plan, the full completion of which is only expected in 2029. New spaces are planned at Caborê, even more integrated with nature, highlighting an amphitheater that should be the largest performance structure at the unit when the works are finished.
