The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan held another meeting of the Republican Headquarters to ensure the stable operation of fuel and energy complex facilities during the summer period. The main objectives of the meeting included maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply and strengthening state control over energy resource usage.
The meeting was attended by the ministry's leadership, enterprises from the energy sector, representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Committee for Industrial, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety, Uzenergy Inspection, as well as administrations of regional centers and Tashkent. Participants discussed ways to guarantee the stability of the energy system amid the expected increase in electricity consumption, as well as increasing the readiness of emergency response teams and accelerating planned technical work.
According to forecasts, daily electricity consumption in Uzbekistan may reach 280 million kWh during the upcoming hot weather period, and peak demand on the energy system could rise to 13–13.3 GW. Enterprises in the energy sector were instructed to enhance monitoring of substations and electrical networks, take additional measures to prevent accidents, and improve the efficiency of preventive maintenance.
Special attention was paid to power outages at several substations in Tashkent. Following an inspection, certain officials bore personal responsibility, and some managers were dismissed from their posts. Before the start of the high-temperature period, the ministry also instructed operators to strengthen supervision over the loading and unloading of gasoline, diesel fuel, and liquefied gas, demanding strict adherence to industrial and fire safety standards. It was decided to temporarily suspend liquefied gas loading and unloading operations during the hottest hours of the day to reduce the risk of fires and explosions.
The Ministry of Energy, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the General Prosecutor's Office, Uzenergy Inspection, and the Committee for Industrial, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety, will conduct expanded inspections of energy and fuel infrastructure to verify compliance with industrial and fire safety requirements. The progress of previously issued instructions was also reviewed at the meeting. Managers were ordered to respond promptly to consumer complaints, timely inform the public about emergencies, and strengthen duty systems in the regions.
A separate block of the meeting was dedicated to anti-corruption measures and strengthening executive discipline. It was emphasized that employment contracts of employees convicted of corruption offenses are terminated, and the sector will continue to follow a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. At the end of the meeting, official warnings were handed to leaders of fuel and energy sector enterprises. The ministry stated that future meetings would focus on the implementation of adopted decisions, the situation in the regions, and the personal responsibility of managers for operational results.
A special commission has been launched in Tashkent tasked with thoroughly studying the causes of power outages and checking the current condition of energy equipment.
This information was provided by the Ministry of Energy following a meeting dedicated to ensuring stable energy supply and preparing for the upcoming autumn-winter period. The ministry emphasized that this year's summer demand for electricity exceeds last year's figures.
The commission will assess the technical condition of the equipment, the quality of reconstruction work performed, and the functioning of anti-accident protection systems, as well as determine the root causes of the failures. Energy companies have been instructed to guarantee the stable operation of networks and substations, keep emergency response teams on constant standby, and promptly inform citizens about the reasons for interruptions.
Problems of inefficient consumption of electricity and gas at large production facilities were also discussed at the meeting. Relevant managers have been ordered to implement energy-saving methods and modernize outdated equipment.
Furthermore, issues related to corruption and debt in the industry were raised. It was announced that employees found guilty of corrupt activities will be dismissed, and a special council will be established to analyze corruption risks in the sector. Heads of enterprises in Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions have been assigned the task of undergoing full certification.
Previously, the Minister of Energy decided to dismiss 44 directors due to the condition of the networks and high losses. Before this, the department stated that the personnel measures taken should contribute to ensuring uninterrupted resources for the population both in the summer and during the autumn-winter period.
According to data from the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, the total electricity generation in Uzbekistan for the period from January to May 2026 amounted to 36,167.3 million kWh. This figure exceeds the volume registered for the same period last year, which reached 35,064.2 million kWh.
However, changes occurred in the production structure. Generation by large enterprises decreased to 24,812.5 million kWh compared to 26,316.5 million kWh the previous year. At the same time, the volume of electricity produced by small enterprises increased to 11,354.8 million kWh, up from 8,747.7 million kWh, indicating the growing significance of small businesses in the country's energy sector.
Regarding thermal energy, production by large enterprises in January-May 2026 decreased to 8,429.8 thousand Gcal, whereas the figure was 10,211.4 thousand Gcal the previous year.
