The rise in prices for used cars and auto parts in Algeria has prompted the government to adopt a new strategy aimed at strengthening the country's automotive industry.
New Production Strategy
Authorities plan to boost local production and reduce dependence on imported components for vehicles by implementing new projects in the provinces of Batna and Tissemsilt. These production facilities will be responsible for manufacturing car bodies, interior plastic elements, and spare parts.
Prime Minister's Statements
Prime Minister Seif Grib announced in an interview that the necessary foundation has been laid for the development of the automotive sector. He specified that body manufacturing will take place in Batna, while all types of plastic components for the cabin will be produced in Tissemsilt.
These initiatives are another step in Algeria's efforts to transition from simple vehicle assembly to creating a more integrated supply chain in the automotive field. Grib added that new players wishing to operate in Algeria should be aware of the formation of this new industry, as the country is working to build a genuine automotive industry that meets the needs of the domestic market, rather than superficial production or simple assembly.
Expert Opinion on Potential
According to automotive expert Fares Bouchaali, the latest measure aims to revive industrial assets and form a stronger ecosystem that includes manufacturers, suppliers, and skilled workers. He noted that due to its strategic location and the advantages it offers investors, Algeria has the potential to create an attractive environment for developing a real automotive manufacturing industry.
As the new production projects develop, Algeria expects that greater local integration will help transform its automotive sector into a driver of industrial growth, job creation, and long-term economic diversification.
