If you are looking for a healthy, tasty, and filling option for breakfast, Mix Dal Uttapam is an excellent choice. This article provides a simple instruction on how to prepare this dish, which is easy to make at home.
Features of Mix Dal Uttapam
Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. If you are tired of usual dishes like poha or paratha and want to try something new, Mix Dal Uttapam, which is a South Indian dish, will be perfect. This uttapam is made from rice and various types of legumes, making it not only delicious but also rich in protein and fiber.
Ingredients for Preparation
For preparation, you need: 1 cup of rice, ½ cup of urad dal flour, ½ cup of moong dal, ½ cup of masoor dal, ½ cup of chana dal, 1 onion (finely chopped), 1 tomato (finely chopped), 2 green chilies (finely chopped), ½ cup of bell pepper (finely chopped), 2 tablespoons of fresh coriander (finely chopped), 1 teaspoon of ginger paste, ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds, a pinch of baking soda (optional), salt to taste, and vegetable oil as needed.
Step-by-Step Instructions
First, rinse and soak the rice and all types of legumes thoroughly in water for 4–5 hours. After that, grind them in a blender, adding a little water. It is important to ensure that the resulting mixture is neither too runny nor too thick.
Cover the resulting mixture and leave it to ferment for another 4–5 hours. When the batter is ready, add salt, cumin, ginger paste, and, if desired, a pinch of baking soda, mixing all ingredients thoroughly.
Cooking and Serving
Heat a pan and lightly grease it with oil. Pour one ladleful of batter and spread it evenly into a circle shape. Top with finely chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilies, bell pepper, and coriander. Add a little oil around the edges and cook on low heat. When the bottom side of the uttapam becomes golden and crispy, flip it and fry well on the other side. The finished uttapam should be placed on a hot plate. Mix Dal Uttapam is especially delicious when paired with coconut chutney, sambar, or tomato chutney.
