In the Daman and Diu administrative district, as well as in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 29.7% of voters were removed from the draft electoral roll published on Friday. The observation process was conducted by officials as part of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The largest share of removed voters—22.5% of the electorate—belonged to those marked as absent or untraceable, as they were not found at registered addresses despite multiple visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Additionally, 4.6% of voters had permanently relocated, 1.7% had passed away, 0.6% were registered at multiple addresses, and 0.2% were excluded under the 'other' category.
Of the total number of voters in the district, which amounted to 4.28 lakh, only slightly over 3 lakh, or 70.3%, submitted nomination forms on June 4, when the SIR was announced. The rest were excluded from the draft list.
According to an official who participated in the SIR, the district's population, based on the latest health department survey, is 6.8 lakh people, of whom about 3 lakh are migrants.
Although 29.7% is the highest removal rate to date among any state or district during the draft list stage, this is not the final figure. Removed names can be reinstated during the period for filing claims and objections. New registrations (via Form 6) will also lead to some additions. The final list will be published on August 11.
