The Ministry of Road Transport has increased the number of services available online through voluntary Aadhaar authentication from 58 to 100.
New opportunities for drivers
Among the recently added services are applying for a driving license (DL), adding a vehicle class to an existing DL, permanent transfer of DL, and updating the mobile phone number linked to the DL.
Citizens who decline Aadhaar authentication or do not have an Aadhaar number can utilize these services in person by presenting an alternative identity document at the relevant authority. One official noted that this expansion aims to include more services in the faceless scheme.
Vehicle registration services
In the vehicle registration category, operations such as name change and mobile number update in RC, RC renewal, entry of nominee details, and addition of a nominee in RC, cancellation of No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the owner, and RC cancellation have also been included in the faceless scheme.
Furthermore, owners can now perform online payment and request a refund of vehicle tax, as well as process ownership transfer in cases of death. According to the notification, the online services also include the addition, cessation, and continuation of hypothecation.
Additional online operations
The expanded list of online services includes converting vehicles from commercial to private category, registering vintage cars, and assigning new registration numbers after moving to another state.
