REC Ltd, a state-owned enterprise of the Ministry of Energy, will provide financial support amounting to 15,000 crore rupees to stimulate investments in Tripura's energy and renewable energy sectors.
Signing agreements with the Government of Tripura
On Friday, the company announced the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Tripura. These partnerships include collaboration with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) to provide financial assistance for renewable energy projects worth up to 5,000 crore rupees, and with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to support energy sector projects valued at 10,000 crore rupees.
The agreements were concluded during the 'Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026'. The company emphasized that TREDA, acting as the authorized body for renewable energy development, will facilitate the implementation of clean energy projects across the state, while REC Ltd will provide financial assistance to attract investments in the green energy sector.
Goals and prospects of the cooperation
According to the company, this partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of clean energy, unlock the potential of Tripura's renewable resources, and make a significant contribution to the region's sustainable development. The 10,000 crore rupee partnership is aimed at financing key initiatives in the state's energy sector, which will help expand and modernize Tripura's energy infrastructure, ensuring reliable and sustainable electricity access for residents.
Other company projects
In May, REC's subsidiary, REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL), signed an agreement with the Bihar State Power Transmission Company to develop intra-state transmission lines through competitive tariff-based bidding. This joint effort was aimed at modernizing the grid to minimize transmission losses and improve power quality, thereby accelerating the implementation of crucial transmission projects and encouraging private investment.
In the same month, RECPDCL also signed an MoU with the Electronics Research and Development Association (ERDA). The goal of this agreement was to strengthen quality control mechanisms and ensure compliance of materials used under the Rural Distribution Sector Modernization Scheme (RDSS). This should also ensure that materials meet established standards and contribute to improving the operational reliability and efficiency of the power distribution system nationwide.
