Popular rapper K.O has hinted at hosting a large-scale live show later this year. Hip-hop fans in South Africa can expect this event in the fourth quarter.
Announcement of a Big Concert
While discussing the next phase of his career with DJ Sliqe and Roiii on 'The Agenda' on YFM, the artist, known for the hit 'Hotela', announced work on something significant for the local hip-hop scene. He stated: 'More business, more growth. Right now I am busy preparing a huge show that is planned to take place in the fourth quarter of this year.'
Although most details remain secret, K.O confirmed that the event will happen. He added: 'The announcement will appear in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye out. Big, big, big. You understand? Believe me.'
Career and Musical Development
K.O, who is called 'Skhanda God', has over twenty years of experience building one of the most stable careers in South African hip-hop. He started his career as part of the group Teargas with Ma-E and Ntukza before launching a solo career and presenting 'Skhanda rap'—a sound that combines kwaito influences with hip-hop.
His solo work reached new heights after the release of the song 'Caracara' in 2014, which helped change the direction of local hip-hop and became one of the genre's biggest hits. Since then, he has continued to evolve, releasing projects such as 'Skhanda Republic', 'Skhanda Republic 2', 'PTY UnLTD', 'SR3', and recently 'Phara City.'
Relevance in a Changing World
Even amidst shifts in the musical landscape caused by the rise of Amapiano, K.O has managed to stay in the spotlight. His hit 'SETE' has become one of the most popular songs in the country, and new releases, including '20 Summers', 'Hotela', and 'Supanova', maintain his constant presence in discussions.
This experienced rapper continues to remain relevant in the constantly changing industry. Previously, speaking to 'IOL' about how to maintain longevity in this field, he explained his success through adaptability and networking. He noted: 'Your availability is your currency. By putting yourself out there and interacting with other people, you are likely to get opportunities, and you will also learn from others and return to your blueprint to recalibrate.'
