The practice of identifying individuals who burn stover in agricultural fields after the wheat harvest using data obtained from satellites has begun. Some such violators have already been held administratively responsible.
According to information provided by the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, the analysis of space images is carried out jointly with the Space Research and Technology Agency, using images from the Uzbekcosmos agency. After suspicious areas are detected, territorial units of Ecopolice are dispatched to conduct necessary inspections.
Thanks to this coordinated work, 744 incidents of burning were discovered on lands cleared after the harvesting of grain crops. Following the inspections conducted, 172 people were held accountable, and the total damage inflicted on the environment amounted to 652.3 million soms.
Territorial administrations also send warnings to farms to prevent the practice of burning fields left after grain harvesting. Furthermore, the department conducts separate checks regarding the burning of fallen leaves, branches, as well as other plant and construction waste both in fields and in residential areas. Since the beginning of this year, 9,821 protocols have been issued for such violations.
It was previously reported that a contractor organization in Tashkent received a fine of 40 million soms for causing damage to trees and for a fire that occurred at a construction site.
