The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has released an important update regarding the transfer of Pension Fund (PF) funds. Now, PF funds linked to a UAN associated with Aadhaar will be automatically transferred to the employee's new organizational account when they are employed by a new company.
Automation of the Transfer Process
It will no longer be necessary to submit a transfer request. This change was made possible after migrating the EPFO members' database to a new centralized IT platform (CITES). The goal of this step is to speed up and optimize member services. The automated service is designed to ease the burden on workers who change jobs throughout their careers and open multiple EPFO accounts.
Changes in Job Change Procedure
Previously, the process of transferring PF funds from an old company was multi-step and lengthy. Members had to either submit a request through the EPFO portal or offline. Furthermore, merging remaining funds and service history required a request through the employer and the EPF system.
According to EPFO statements, under the new system, accounts based on UAN linked to Aadhaar will be transferred automatically upon changing jobs. This means employees no longer need to submit separate online or offline applications to transfer their PF balance to a new account.
Simplification of Account Management
After implementing these changes, the employee's UAN will remain unified, and all amounts will be accumulated in one account. EPFO aims to simplify account management and reduce paperwork by automatically linking all PF accounts through a single UAN. This is particularly important for workers who frequently change jobs, as they may accumulate numerous pension accounts.
Merging these accounts helps maintain continuity of service records and keeps pension savings in one place, which simplifies tracking PF amounts and facilitates final settlement. Members can view their employment history through the Unified EPFO Member Portal by logging in with their UAN credentials and authenticating via OTP in the service history section.
Additional Service Improvements
Automatic PF transfer is one feature of the updated unified EPFO platform. In addition, EPFO has introduced other measures, such as faster claim processing, the implementation of a unified payment system, and the ability to receive services at any EPFO office, instead of being limited to basic operations on their own account.
