The water supply in the city of Almada is expected to increase by 20% by the end of the current week.
The President of SMAS Almada, Luis Palma, acknowledged that water supply issues continue in settlements such as Costa de Caparica, Charneca de Caparica, Feijó, and Laranjeiro.
Despite the launch of a new water intake, increased supply has not yet yielded the expected results because the new well is incapable of providing a sufficient volume of water to meet current demand. It is planned that the second well will begin operation by the end of July, and two more intakes should be commissioned before the end of the year.
Luis Palma confirmed that there is currently no established date for the final resolution of this problem. He explained that the current investments require time to show effect, and SMAS is constantly managing the situation to minimize negative impact on residents.
According to the president, the main difficulty is that current water consumption exceeds the available capacity of the intake, which hinders regular and normalized supply throughout the municipality.
Almada is experiencing a water supply crisis, accompanied by water outages in various districts. The situation was worsened by a major malfunction.
