The government of Uzbekistan has decided to attract international film projects and foreign shooting crews by providing monetary compensation. Foreign film companies can now recover a portion of the expenses incurred when producing films in the country.
Rebate System Mechanism
The approved procedure provides for a rebate system, according to which the state compensates a certain share of the costs. The refund percentage directly depends on the total volume of the company's expenses for filming in Uzbekistan.
Compensation Conditions
According to the established rules, if the total expenses amount to up to 3 billion soums, the company will receive a 10% refund. For expenses between 3 and 5 billion soums, the compensation will be 15%, and for amounts between 5 and 10 billion soums, it will be 20%. For projects with expenses exceeding 10 billion soums, a 25% refund is provided, but the maximum compensation amount per film is limited to 4 billion soums.
Application Procedure
To obtain compensation, the film company must submit an electronic application through a specially designated platform within two months after the end of the shooting period. All necessary documents confirming the incurred expenses must be attached. A special commission reviews such applications within 15 working days, and upon a positive decision, the funds are transferred within five working days.
Tax Incentives
It is also noted that a tax exemption for foreign companies due to their activities in producing film products in Uzbekistan was already in effect.
