The film 'Alpha' starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari has completed its first week of theatrical release. Although high hopes were placed on the first female lead picture in the Yash Raj Films spy universe, the results from the initial seven-day period suggest that this universe will have to wait longer before another successful film is released.
Financial performance of 'Alpha'
'Alpha', shot with a stated budget of 125 crore rupees, collected box office revenue comparable to Alia's film from ten years ago, 'Dear Zindagi'. Despite expectations for the film not being very high, it started quite well, collecting about 34 crore rupees in the first weekend. However, audiences showed little interest in 'Alpha' during weekdays, which was reflected in the box office collections.
Collection dynamics
On Monday, the film showed weak results, and on Tuesday, it could not take advantage of discounted ticket offers. By Wednesday, the collection dropped below 3 crore rupees. According to Sakencilk, on Thursday, the seventh day, 'Alpha' collected 2.60 crore rupees. Thus, the total net collection for Alia's film over seven days exceeded 47 crore rupees.
Comparison with past works
Alia, one of Bollywood's most successful actresses, previously starred in films such as Raji and Gangubai Kathiawadi in solo roles without heroes. Her best solo performances had the following first-week collection figures. The collections of 'Alpha' for the first week were comparable to the film 'Dear Zindagi' (2016), which had a budget of about 45 crore rupees, less than the film's own first-week collection.
Future projections
For 'Alpha', with a stated budget of 125 crore rupees, it needed to collect about 60 crore rupees in the first week to have a chance of success. However, due to the lack of positive reviews, the film failed to attract many visitors on weekdays. Since 'Alpha' earned only 47 crore rupees in a week, it needs a significant increase in collections in the second week to achieve an acceptable result.
Competition in the second run
On this same Friday, the comedy 'Dhamal 4' featuring multiple stars, starring Ajay Devgn, is releasing in theaters. Ajay's film is receiving a good response in bookings. Since 'Dhamal 4' is a family comedy, it is likely to attract more viewers this weekend, which may lead to a reduction in 'Alpha's' screenings in the second week. Now it remains to be seen whether 'Alpha' can stabilize its position over the second weekend.
