Kagiso Rabada, the Proteas team's fast bowler and global ambassador for the RADO brand, shared his thoughts on his playing style, achievements, and why Ben Stokes' absence is a 'sad day' for the South African tour.
New Partnership and Career
Rabada exclusively told Independent Media after being appointed as a global ambassador for Rado. He noted that the transition from the hot European summer to cool Cape Town was an ideal moment for such an event. He emphasized that life is like cricket, and success depends on built partnerships, making this collaboration a valuable acquisition for him.
Challenges and Achievements in the IPL
Despite the grueling 2025/26 season, which involved a two-month stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rabada appeared fresh and full of energy. He admitted that the IPL experience was 'very tough.' Nevertheless, his physical and mental resilience allowed him to have his best season in years, resulting in him receiving the 'Purple Cap'—the tournament's leading run-scorer award.
The Importance of Support and Rivalry
Rabada explained that the toughest moments come when things are going poorly and one cannot see their next step. During such periods, it is crucial to turn inward and ask difficult questions, as well as surround oneself with people who accept you regardless of your actions. He recalled early rivalries with former England captain Ben Stokes, noting that Stokes once amazed spectators in Newlands by scoring 258 runs off just 198 balls.
Expectations for the South Africa Match
Rabada stated that he is eager to play against his long-time opponent during England's visit to South Africa at the end of the year. He considers Ben Stokes an integral part of the English team, a player who knows how to seize big moments. Although he acknowledged that Stokes' absence is a 'moral victory' for them, he also noted that the English team will remain strong without him, concluding that it is a 'slightly sad day' because it is players like him that test one's mettle.
