An international architectural competition is underway to develop the project for a modern thermal resort that will be located in Lagoon Blue (Iceland). This facility is envisioned as a tourist attraction designed to offer visitors a deep immersion into the atmosphere of water, stone, steam, and stunning landscapes.
The complex's program must include a main thermal bath, a cold plunge pool, and relaxation and contemplation areas. Furthermore, six exclusive suites are provided for guests wishing to extend their stay and enjoy the secluded and tranquil atmosphere of the Icelandic landscape.
The project is planned to be situated on the northern side of the Blue Lagoon, on the Reykjanes Peninsula, which is one of Iceland's most geologically unique areas. The chosen location is ideal for the project's realization as it will be integrated into the existing thermal complex, occupying an area of approximately 6400 m². This zone maintains a high degree of seclusion and direct contact with nature, combining an isolated landscape with established tourist infrastructure.
The competition has a clear schedule: registration opens on June 8, and the first stage of application submission closes on June 30. On July 20, the composition of the Advisory Committee will be announced, and the consultation period will end on July 24. The second stage of registration will close on July 25, and the overall application deadline is August 9. The final deadline for submitting proposals is set for August 24, after which the Evaluation Committee will make a decision on September 7, and the results will be published on September 9, the day of the award ceremony.
The first-place winner will receive $9000 USD, as well as the opportunity to have the project showcased and published on leading global architectural websites and in digital publications of best works. Three participants who receive honorable mentions will also have their work showcased and published on major global architectural resources.
