An international scientific conference dedicated to the legacy of Imam Mutaridiy took place in the city of Samarkand. The event was organized by the Imam Mutaridiy International Scientific Research Center as part of the Forum of International Islamic Civilization under the theme 'The Legacy of Imam Mutaridiy: Moderation, Magnanimity, and the Foundation of Knowledge.'
Participants and Goals of the Conference
More than a hundred scientists from foreign countries specializing in Mutaridiy, muftis, ministers of religious affairs, experts, as well as local scholars and specialists, gathered at the forum. The main goal of the conference was to deeply study the scientific heritage of Imam Mutaridiy, widely promote the principles of moderation and magnanimity in the international scientific community, and strengthen scientific cooperation in this field.
Speeches and Presentations
The Director of the Imam Mutaridiy International Scientific Research Center, Komiljon Shermuhamedov, opened the forum with a speech about the reforms being carried out in the country's religious and educational sphere, the significance of Mutaridiy's teachings today, and the efforts aimed at studying and popularizing this heritage. Among the speakers were Muhammad Abdulrahman ad-Duwaini, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Murtazo Bidir, Director of the Turkish Institute for Islamic Studies (İSAM), Sheikh Nazir Muhammad Ayod, Davronbek Makhsudov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Religious Affairs of Malaysia, and Gulten Bedrettin, President of the Finnish Islamic Society.
The speakers emphasized the role of Mutaridiy's teachings in the progress of the Muslim community, their importance in strengthening an environment of magnanimity and moderation today, and noted that this forum in Uzbekistan serves these noble goals. It was pointed out that the ideas of magnanimity, moderation, and knowledge put forward by Imam Mutaridiy serve as a solid ideological foundation for ensuring spiritual and social stability in society, as well as for preserving the purity of the Sunni faith. Mutaridiy's teaching is a model of moderate Islamic thought based on the consensus of reason and tradition.
Legacy and Modern Projects
During the conference, it was recognized that the legacy of Imam Mutaridiy plays a key role in the intellectual struggle against the ideas of extremism, radicalism, and violence. At the end of the event, a number of proposals and recommendations regarding the deeper study and popularization of Imam Mutaridiy's teachings were presented, after which the participants of the international forum adopted a Declaration. Furthermore, a ceremony was held to award winners of the international scientific competition held among foreign researchers on the topic 'Mutaridiy's Teachings – A Heritage Connecting Civilizations Through the Values of Science, Thought, and Magnanimity.' A concept for the Imam Mutaridiy Innovative Museum was also presented.
Information was provided during the presentation about the construction works being carried out in accordance with the decision of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the large-scale celebration of the 1155th anniversary of Imam Mutaridiy's birth. New tombs, modern mosques, and scientific and educational facilities are being built in Samarkand on the territory of the Imam Mutaridiy complex and the adjacent ancient Chokardiza cemetery. As a result of archaeological surveys, the tomb of the great faqih, author of the work 'Hidoya' by Burkhoniddin Marginoni, was discovered and is also being restored as part of the complex.
Innovative Museum and Its Exhibits
The concept of the Innovative Museum, which is an important part of the Imam Mutaridiy complex, was presented in detail. The project was developed by the company Outdoor Factory from Turkey based on scientific materials provided by the Imam Mutaridiy International Scientific Research Center, and its exhibits are formed using modern design, digital technologies, and interactive solutions. The lead researcher of the Imam Mutaridiy International Scientific Research Center, Ikhtiyor Abdurakhmonov, provided detailed information about the scientific concept and content of the museum's halls. He emphasized that the museum demonstrates the history of the formation of Aqida and Kalam, the life and scientific heritage of Imam Mutaridiy, the spread of Mutaridiy's teachings from Transoxiana throughout the Islamic world, as well as the history of the Chokardiza cemetery and current work on studying the scholar's legacy, using modern multimedia technologies.
