Passengers on the Dubai Metro can expect more comfortable journeys this summer thanks to the completion of modernization work on the air conditioning systems in 62 metro cars. These improvements were carried out following a project implemented with the participation of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The project was executed in collaboration between the Dubai Metro and the operator of the Dubai Tram, Keolis MHI. It involved comprehensive maintenance of the ventilation and air conditioning (VAC) systems in the trains. According to the RTA, the main objective of the work was to enhance cooling efficiency, reduce technical failures, and extend the service life of these systems.
The Authority stated that this maintenance will help ensure the uninterrupted operation of the metro while maintaining passenger comfort during the hottest months of the year. The project included thorough inspections of the main components of the air conditioning systems, replacement of parts that had reached the end of their operational life, and performance testing to guarantee effective system operation.
The RTA emphasized that this maintenance is part of its preventive maintenance strategy aimed at increasing the performance of critical transport assets before issues arise. Furthermore, the authority noted that these works should increase the reliability of the metro fleet and reduce long-term maintenance costs. The modernization is being conducted during Dubai's peak summer temperatures, when air conditioning plays a key role in ensuring comfortable travel for thousands of daily passengers.
The RTA reported that all work complied with international standards and was carried out outside of peak operating hours so as not to disrupt train schedules or passenger comfort. The Authority added that this project is part of broader efforts to enhance operational efficiency, extend the lifespan of metro assets, and continue providing safe and reliable public transport to the city's residents and visitors.
