On July 18th, people, families, and corporate groups can dedicate 67 minutes to good deeds, embodying Mandela's legacy through practical support for needy animals. This year, Mdzananda, in collaboration with FOUR PAWS South Africa, plans to donate 67 kennels and over 670 care kits for dogs that have long awaited shelter during the cold winter months.
These animals, many of whom have been on the kennel waiting list for months, will finally receive protection, warmth, and comfort. Marcel du Plessis, Executive Director of Fundraising and Communications at Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter, notes: 'Many of these dogs have been on our waiting list for months to receive a donated kennel. On this Mandela Day, they will finally receive the gift of warmth, protection, and comfort.'
The initiative is aimed not only at providing immediate aid but also serves as a reminder of the power of collective compassion. Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS South Africa, emphasizes: 'This campaign is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when compassion turns into action. Together with our supporters and partners, we have not only met our goal but exceeded it, ensuring significant and long-term changes for the neediest dogs. This is the spirit of Mandela Day brought to life.'
As a result of an unexpected donation, an additional 67 kennels from the Signature of Hope Foundation will increase the total number of kennels distributed on Mandela Day to an impressive 134. Craig Featherby, Trustee of Signature of Hope, expressed pride in participating in this noble mission: 'We are proud that through Signature of Hope we can help provide safe shelter for animals under the care of this wonderful organization.'
Mdzananda's efforts extend beyond simply providing shelter. The organization is holding open days on July 17th and 18th, offering tours of the clinic and shelter. This initiative aims to showcase the dedication and resilience of the Hyelitshe community while encouraging more visitors to witness the compassion driving Mdzananda's work.
Du Plessis urges: 'We know some people hesitate about visiting Hyelitshe, but we would be delighted to welcome them to see our work firsthand on this Mandela Day. It is an opportunity to see the difference compassion can make every day.' Interested visitors can book tours by emailing Kelly at fund@mdzananda.co.za.
