Delegations from Karakalpakstan, along with representatives of leading South Korean energy structures and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, participated in the II Uzbekistan – Korea International Energy Forum (Energy Value Networks Forum), which recently took place in Tashkent.
During the significant two-day event, the delegation of the Karakalpakstan Republic, led by the Chairman of the Joqorghi Kengesi, I. Niyazov, reached important agreements concerning the introduction of a green economy and high technologies in the region, as well as transforming the territory into a center for green energy and innovation.
These agreements, concluded with advanced companies and institutions from South Korea, will mark a new stage in the modernization of Karakalpakstan's social infrastructure and ensuring its ecological sustainability.
In particular, under the agreement with the Korea Institute of Climate Change, the provision of solar panels for social facilities is planned. The implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the energy system is also provided for through the organization 'ForEMDX' and the launch of smart grid management systems. Furthermore, the creation of infrastructure for the safe disposal of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in Karakalpakstan, jointly with the organization 'GoodByeCar', and their recycling into secondary energy storage systems (ESS) is anticipated.
Following the 19th Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou (China) in 2022, where the Uzbekistan delegation achieved its best historical results in terms of the quantity and quality of medals, attention is now focused on the upcoming 20th Summer Asian Games to be held in Japan.
Currently, the Ministry of Sport, the National Olympic Committee, and relevant sports federations are taking necessary measures to achieve worthy results at the 20th Summer Asian Games, which will take place in the cities of Aichi and Nagoya (Japan) from September 19 to October 4 of this year. Training camps are being organized for national teams, and analytical work and monitoring are being conducted with the participation of experts and specialists.
The Ministry of Sport, the National Olympic Committee, and the federations for wrestling, martial arts, mixed martial arts, and other sports have analyzed the preparation processes carried out jointly with the heads of these federations. During discussions, issues regarding the physical and psychological preparation of athletes for prestigious international competitions, as well as the effective organization of training camps, were reviewed.
Reports from responsible persons on the preparatory activities being conducted were heard at the meeting. Recommendations were put forward to improve the activities of coaches and strengthen the selection system. Following the discussion, the heads of the sports federations were instructed to timely and qualitatively fulfill the assigned tasks, increase the performance of athletes on the international stage, and ensure worthy participation in future Asian Games.
Previously, at the Asian Games in Indonesia in 2018, the country's athletes won 20 gold, 24 silver, and 25 bronze medals. In 2022, the figures improved: 22 gold, 18 silver, and 31 bronze medals were won. According to the author, the large-scale reforms being implemented in the country in the field of updating sports infrastructure, developing mass sports, and preparing qualified athletes indicate that 'Aichi-Nagoya-2026' will mark the beginning of new successes in the country's sporting history.
Nevertheless, in major sports, success in intense competitions against the strongest teams from giant countries depends not only on adequate preparation but also on luck. The author expresses hope that the athletes and national teams, oriented towards 'battles' at the Asian Games, will always have open doors to success.
A working group established to ensure the fulfillment of tasks set out in the Ministry of Mahakomato of the Republic of Uzbekistan's plan for the first half of 2026 inspected measures related to employment and family support.
Initially, the activities of the Center for Employment Provision and Women's Health Promotion in the settlement of Sarabiy were examined, which operates under the execution of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 3, 2025, 'On Additional Measures to Support Women.' Detailed information was heard at the center regarding ongoing work on ensuring women's employment, their professional training, and health promotion.
In addition, the working group familiarized itself with the employment of women and working conditions at LLC 'Daf Export Group,' as well as production processes.
The Resolution of the Ministry of Mahakomato of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 19, 2026, 'On Measures for Further Improving the System of Youth Preparation for Family Life and Creating Family Counseling Services,' is of great importance for improving the moral and ethical environment in families, forming responsible parenting skills through educational programs for maternity preparation and improving the system of youth preparation for family life, as well as providing legal and psychological services.
As part of the implementation of this resolution, the Family and Women's Center located in the settlement of Ellikqala was visited. Events aimed at supporting families and providing consulting services were discussed there.
Afterward, the working group visited LLC 'Bo'ston Silk.' The work conducted at the enterprise on developing animal husbandry, livestock breeding, and increasing network efficiency was studied, and the conditions provided to employees were reviewed.
During the visit, comprehensive information was provided about the work being carried out in the region in these areas, the results achieved, and priority tasks for the future.
The working group also visited the cities of Nukus and the Tahiatosh district, where issues of women's employment and family support are being studied.
The city of Almaty is not only a major industrial center but also a formed area of engineering thought that plays an important role in the country's development. The Almaty State Technical Institute, operating in this area, has been training qualified specialists for the mining and metallurgy sectors for over half a century.
The history of the institute begins in 1963. In that year, the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy of Tashkent Polytechnic Institute was transferred directly to the city of Almaty for educational purposes. This decision stemmed from the need to supply the country's major mining and metallurgical enterprises with highly skilled engineers.
In subsequent years, the educational institution was reorganized several times. Although its activities were suspended in 1995, it was re-established as part of the Navoi State Mining Institute in 2001. Since 2017, it has operated as a branch of Tashkent State Technical University. As a result of the President's decision on September 8, 2025, the higher education institution gained the status of an independent Almaty State Technical Institute, marking a new era in its development.
Currently, the institute is not limited to training engineering personnel. It has been tasked with developing scientific solutions for industry, introducing innovative technologies, and integrating science with production. To this end, a development concept for 2025-2030 has also been adopted.
The institute currently has over 5,400 students enrolled. It is planned to increase this number to 9,000 in the coming years. In recent years, 12 new educational programs have been introduced, and the number of specialties has been increased to 23, with modern fields such as information technology, computer engineering, construction, architecture, economics, and ecology being developed alongside mining and metallurgy.
One of the main features of the Almaty State Technical Institute is the deep connection between education and production. 17 branch departments have been established at the Almaty Mining and Metallurgical Combine enterprises. Through this, students strengthen their theoretical knowledge directly in the production process, while company specialists participate in the educational process, which allows young specialists to be prepared according to the demands of the labor market.
Great attention is also paid to scientific research. In 2026, a scientific council was established under the institute to award the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the fields of metallurgy and enrichment of mineral resources, based on the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission. This allowed young researchers to defend their scientific works specifically in Almaty.
Innovative activity at the university is also entering a new stage. Based on the President's decree of April 4, 2026, work has begun at the institute on commercializing scientific works and establishing 'spin-off' innovative companies. Furthermore, the 'GeoMetTex' engineering school specialized in geology, metallurgy, and engineering, as well as the 'Simbiotech' laboratory based on artificial intelligence technologies, are planned to be established.
Another strong direction of the institute's activity is international cooperation. Agreements have been concluded with leading higher education institutions from China and Turkey to establish joint educational programs, scientific research, and laboratories, which serves to enhance the institute's international prestige.
In conclusion, the Almaty State Technical Institute is shaping up not only as an educational institution for training engineers but also as a scientific center where industry, science, and innovation converge. Its development is of great importance for the future of the city of Almaty, the country's industry, and engineering education. The tasks set before the institute lay a solid foundation for it to become one of the leading engineering universities in the country by increasing the number of students, achieving international accreditation, forming its own scientific school, and establishing innovative companies.
