New directions for environmental cooperation with Japanese company discussed

A discussion on new vectors of environmental partnership took place during the meeting with a delegation led by Sosuke Ishida, Director of the Infrastructure Business Department of the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation. The meeting was conducted by Aziz Abduhakimov, head of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.

Development of bilateral cooperation

It was emphasized that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan continues to develop, and the partnership is entering a new stage in the fields of sustainable development, implementation of modern technologies, and improvement of ecological infrastructure.

Environmental projects under discussion

During the negotiations, five national environmental programs initiated by the President were discussed: 'Green Territory', 'Clean Air', 'Unclaimed Area', 'Biomeros', and 'Ecological Culture'.

Experience and modernization directions

The Japanese side highly appreciated the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan's environmental sector. It was noted that Sumitomo Corporation successfully implements environmental and infrastructure projects in more than twenty countries in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Special attention was paid to climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and the introduction of energy-saving technologies. Japanese specialists presented international experience in modern heating, ventilation, and air conditioning based on heat pumps.

Pilot projects and technologies

An example of a modern building complex constructed using Daikin's technologies in Turkmenistan was provided. An initiative was put forward to implement a pilot project in Uzbekistan aimed at the phased replacement of hydrocarbon fuel heating systems with energy-saving technologies. The possibility of creating a demonstration site for testing energy-saving heating systems within the framework of the 'Green Territory' project in Samarkand region was also considered.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue consultations at the expert level, form a list of sustainable projects, and jointly develop financing mechanisms for the pilot project on housing stock modernization.

Investment project worth $300 million discussed in Shanghai

A working meeting took place in the city of Shanghai, People's Republic of China, between the advisor of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in China, an official representative of the Customs Committee, and the management of 'Shanghai SUS Environment'. During this meeting, the current status of a major investment project being implemented in Uzbekistan, the progress of construction and installation works, and current issues arising during the project implementation were discussed in detail.

Goals and Agreements of the Parties

The parties reached an agreement to strengthen direct working contacts for the prompt elimination of existing problems, strengthening cooperation, and accelerating project implementation.

Details of the Investment Project

This project is carried out based on the relevant decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 24, 2025. According to this decision, it is planned to create power generation facilities by burning household waste using modern technologies in the Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions.

Financing and Progress of Works

Within the framework of the project, scheduled for the period 2025–2027, the attraction of direct foreign investments amounting to 300 million US dollars is provided for. Currently, construction and installation works are continuing in stages according to the approved plan.

Support for Investment Initiatives

It is emphasized that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China and the Department for Support of Entrepreneurial Activities of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan actively interact with relevant ministries, agencies, and project initiators to effectively support projects implemented with the participation of Chinese investments. Practical consultations and coordination are currently underway for a total of nine investment projects, which is a clear testament to attention to supporting foreign investments and timely implementation of large infrastructure projects in the country.

Chinese experience in tourism and education is being applied in Kokdom

The Governor of the Fergana Region, Khayrullo Bozorov, met with a delegation from Shaanxi International Economic and Trade Group Co., Ltd., led by project manager Pan Lei, at Kokdon State University.

Discussion of Joint Projects

During the meeting, issues regarding the implementation of joint projects and strengthening mutually beneficial ties in the fields of education and tourism were discussed. Special attention was paid to promising tourism projects in the city of Kokdon.

Development of Tourism Potential

It was noted that ancient and historic Kokdon possesses rich cultural heritage and high tourism potential. Proposals were considered for creating tourist routes to increase tourist flow and develop modern tourism infrastructure. The parties agreed to begin practical cooperation based on specific projects.

Uzbekistan Promotes Metrology in Accordance with International Standards

As part of the 'Support for Reforms in National Quality Infrastructure' project, a meeting was held with experts from the international consulting company Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG) at the Agency for Technical Regulation. The goal of the meeting was to discuss issues of improving metrology in the country and its development based on international standards.

Aspects of Reforms Discussed

PMCG experts, including Nino Javakhadze and Otar Anita, participated in the discussion. The parties detailedly discussed the current state of reforms in metrology, the need to improve the legal framework, the development of the national standards base, the modernization of the state metrological supervision system, as well as expanding the private sector's participation in this area.

International Recognition of Efforts

International experts highly praised Uzbekistan's participation in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and its status as a full member of the Metre Convention, as well as its membership in EURAMET. This recognized the effectiveness of the reforms being carried out to ensure measurement unity and develop the national quality infrastructure in accordance with international requirements.

Plans for System Development

The meeting also reviewed work on improving the metrological system within the framework of the relevant Presidential Decree dated February 16, 2026, including the introduction of modern approaches and the adaptation of the industry to international standards. Participants expressed interest in further improving the national quality infrastructure, implementing advanced international experience in metrology, expanding cooperation, and realizing joint projects.

Such meetings are important for enhancing the competitiveness of the national metrological system on the world stage, as well as for ensuring the quality and safety of products and services.
