BYD plans to increase production and charging station network in Uzbekistan

The Chinese automotive corporation BYD intends to increase its production capacity and develop a network of charging stations in Uzbekistan. This information was provided by the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.

Details of these plans were announced during a meeting between Minister Laziz Kudratov and a representative of BYD, specifically the company's managing director for Central Asia and Caucasus regions, Zhao Shuan. During the negotiations, the parties focused on increasing the degree of production localization and expanding the enterprise's export potential.

BYD plans to create a network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles in Uzbekistan

According to the ministry, directions under consideration include expanding the production base, increasing the volume of product exports, and creating a fast charging station system. It is projected that by the end of 2025, the volume of BYD vehicles produced in Uzbekistan will exceed current figures by five times, increasing from 4,004 to 20.2 thousand units.

In the first five months of this year, production reached 10.1 thousand cars, demonstrating a growth of almost 1.9 times compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, sales of BYD over the same five-month period amounted to 13.7 thousand, giving the brand a 9.4% share of the Uzbek car market, compared to 5.8% the previous year.

History of Cooperation in Uzbekistan

The first agreement between 'Uzavtosanoat' and the Chinese BYD Auto regarding the establishment of a full-cycle plant in Jizzakh region was signed in August 2022. The official presence of the BYD brand in Uzbekistan began in early 2023. In September of the same year, BYD and 'Uzavtosanoat' decided to create a joint venture—BYD Uzbekistan Factory.

The General Director of the JV, Azizbek Mukhitdinov, reported in March that the factory in Uzbekistan plans to produce about ten new models by 2030.

The Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, held a meeting with the Managing Director of BYD for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Chao Shuang. The goal of the negotiations was to discuss the further development of the electric vehicle production project in the republic.

Furthermore, the participants discussed prospects for creating production infrastructure, increasing product export volumes, and forming a network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles in Uzbekistan. At the end of the meeting, the participants confirmed their interest in further strengthening long-term partnership and the successful implementation of the BYD project in Uzbekistan.

BYD is one of the largest global manufacturers of electric vehicles and new energy generation vehicles. Production of cars under this brand started in the Jizzakh region in June 2024.
