Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced a 20% increase in the cost of electricity consumption for certain commercial enterprises. This increase is part of measures to comply with working hours during the transition to daylight saving time.
Increase for the Commercial Sector
The Prime Minister specified that this increase affects commercial establishments, such as restaurants and cafes, that continue operating after the official closing time set by daylight saving rules. He emphasized that settlements with these businesses will be made according to the new tariff.
According to the government decree, the increase applies exclusively to commercial activities—specifically, restaurants and cafes that remain open after the official end of operations during daylight saving time. Businesses that adhere to the established closing time will continue to pay for services at standard rates.
Residential Tariffs for 2026
The Ministry of Energy and Renewable Resources has kept prices unchanged for most levels of household consumption, but a 16% increase has been introduced only for the seventh tier. The residential tariffs are as follows:
- First tier (up to 50 kWh): 68 Piastres
- Second tier (from 51 to 100 kWh): 78 Piastres
- Third tier (from 101 to 200 kWh): 95 Piastres
- Fourth tier (from 201 to 350 kWh): 1.55 LE
- Fifth tier (from 351 to 650 kWh): 1.95 LE
- Sixth tier (from 651 to 1000 kWh): 2.10 LE
- Seventh tier (over 1000 kWh): Increased from 2.23 LE to 2.58 LE per kWh.
Commercial Electricity Tariffs
The structure of tariffs for standard commercial activity is set as follows: up to 100 kWh—162 Piastres per kWh; up to 250 kWh—216 Piastres per kWh; up to 600 kWh—264 Piastres per kWh; up to 1000 kWh—274 Piastres per kWh; and for consumption over 1000 kWh—279 Piastres per kWh.
The introduction of an additional surcharge for non-compliant businesses is part of broader measures to regulate working hours during the summer season. All other categories and tariff levels remain unchanged in accordance with previously announced decisions.
