Kaizer Chiefs has unveiled its new home and away kits for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, and fans have quickly shared their impressions.
Collection Design Concept
The new sets are created under the theme 'The Kingdom Rises' and combine cultural motifs with a look that, according to the club, is suitable for both the stadium and everyday wear. The home kit retains the club's famous gold colors, complemented by geometric patterns inspired by Zulu culture. The design is finished with black stripes and a black collar.
The club stated that the home kit is intended to be not only equipment for football matches but also an essential element of any fan's wardrobe.
Away Kit and New Features
The away kit features a bolder approach: it is made in black with golden and grey zigzag details and a V-shaped pattern on the chest reminiscent of a lion's mane. This design references the club's memorable seasons of 1989, 1992, and 1993, evoking a sense of nostalgia among fans.
For the first time, both kits will be available in limited long-sleeved versions for cooler match days. Furthermore, the home kit will be presented in a women's cut.
Fan and Expert Reaction
Discussions began after the announcement on social media: some fans highly praised the retro style, while others expressed doubts about the new offering from technical partner Kappa. User X @TheVeZzy expressed hope that this would be the last season with Kappa and called for the contract not to be renewed, labeling their work as 'unserious'. Another fan, @Vuyi_X, noted that the design could look cleaner without 'strange shoulder patches' and suggested that the black kit would look better with gold trim instead of yellow.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism. Petrus Erasmus reminded fans that the retro look was an intentional decision because the collection's theme is specifically retro.
For @ThabisoRapulen1, the kits symbolize more than just fashion. He emphasized that the jersey serves as a reminder to players of the heritage that must be protected, calling the club 'Kaizer Chiefs, a team with a long history'.
Some fans continued to call for change, for example, @KagisoKhiba asked if this could be the last season with Kappa. Meanwhile, @nomkhosi4 shared one of the day's most popular reactions: 'Some kits are worn. This one is inherited.'
Management Comments
The club's Marketing Director, Jessica Mouton, believes that the new collection reflects the spirit of the upcoming season. She noted that the team worked hard to create 'glamorous and stylish designs' embodying the season's mantra 'The Kingdom Rises', so that players and fans stand out everywhere.
Ricky Joseph from Kappa South Africa also supported the latest developments, stating that Kaizer Chiefs' designs this season are the best because they perfectly combine trendiness, history, and culture.
Regardless of whether fans decide to add these kits to their wardrobes, it is clear that Chiefs have once again provided football enthusiasts with a topic for long discussions even before the first whistle of the new season.
