In the provincial capital of Nanning, an increase in supplies of antivenom intended for the Henzhou People's Hospital was announced, along with the dispatch of healthcare specialists who treat bites from such animals and the most severe cases.
Government Response Measures
Authorities have intensified patrols in the flooded Yunbiao area, where the affected territory is located, and established emergency medical aid points. Furthermore, a priority channel has been created to serve bite victims to reduce waiting times, as the speed of treatment can be decisive in saving lives.
Consequences and Warnings
According to several individuals, they were bitten by snakes. Beijing News reported that a woman living in Yunbiao died on Tuesday after being bitten. Medical services also used loudspeakers, WeChat groups, and home visits to advise residents to limit nighttime movement as much as possible and avoid areas with dense vegetation, canals, roadside verges, and flooded areas, where the probability of encountering reptiles is higher.
Causes and Scale of the Disaster
Typhoon Maysak, the tenth of the season and the first to reach China this year, has caused at least 39 deaths and nine missing people in Guangxi. Heavy rains led to floods and the destruction of several reservoirs in Nanning city. The release of snakes occurred directly due to the breach of the Liulan Dam in Henzhou, which had two main fissures totaling about 50 meters in length, allowing a large volume of water to flow into downstream areas.
