The Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, held a meeting with the Managing Director of BYD for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Chao Shuang. The goal of the negotiations was to discuss the further development of the electric vehicle production project in the republic.
The main focus of the conversation was on the current results of the project implementation. The parties also reviewed plans to increase production capacity, raise the level of production localization, and develop the factory's export potential.
Furthermore, the participants discussed prospects for creating production infrastructure, increasing product export volumes, and forming a network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles in Uzbekistan. At the end of the meeting, the participants confirmed their interest in further strengthening long-term partnership and the successful implementation of the BYD project in Uzbekistan.
BYD is one of the largest global manufacturers of electric vehicles and new energy generation vehicles. Production of cars under this brand started in the Jizzakh region in June 2024.
A meeting was held in Tashkent where representatives of Uzbekistan and a delegation from the Republic of Korea discussed the further development of cooperation in the field of healthcare, with a particular focus on modernizing ambulance services.
The First Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan, Otabek Imamov, held a meeting with representatives of the Korea Institute for Policy Studies, as well as employees of Autech Corporation and Meskorea. The parties noted that the Republic of Korea is a long-standing strategic partner of Uzbekistan in modernizing its healthcare system.
Participants emphasized the significance of projects implemented under the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the Korea Overseas Cooperation Fund (KOFIH), which aim to improve the quality of medical services and introduce modern standards.
Cooperation with Autech Corporation and Meskorea opens up new opportunities for expanding bilateral interaction. Autech Corporation specializes in supplying advanced ambulances, specialized transport with negative pressure systems for transporting patients with infectious diseases, as well as vehicles equipped with ramps for the elderly and people with disabilities.
Meskorea manufactures simulators and mannequins for medical training, equipment for ambulance and rescue services, disaster response and mass casualty management systems, as well as medical supplies for military and emergency services, including stretchers and rescue kits.
Representatives of the South Korean companies proposed developing joint work to update Uzbekistan's ambulance systems, improve the quality of care provided by ambulances, train specialists according to international standards, and implement advanced foreign experience and educational technologies.
Furthermore, the participants considered the prospects of organizing professional development and training programs for doctors, paramedics, nurses, dispatchers, and technical staff working in Uzbekistan's emergency medical care system. At the conclusion of the discussions, the parties reached agreements on the further development of cooperation and the expansion of bilateral ties in the healthcare sector.
According to data from the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, passenger car production in Uzbekistan reached 190,480 units during the period from January to May 2026. This figure exceeds the volume produced in the same period last year, which was 171,211 units.
The volume of truck output increased to 2,413 units compared to 1,873 units a year earlier. The production of specialized vehicles also showed growth, reaching 23,791 units up from 17,397 units.
Among specific passenger car models, the largest production volume was recorded for the Cobalt model, which amounted to 69,302 units, compared to 58,904 units a year earlier. Significant growth was also noted for the BYD model, whose output almost doubled, reaching 10,120 units versus 5,495 units in January-May 2025.
Additionally, the production of Haval models increased to 4,038 units from 2,930 units, and KIA output rose to 11,128 units compared to 10,076 units.
Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the output of some models. Damas production decreased to 35,269 units compared to 38,753 units a year earlier. Onix output fell to 15,157 units from 16,215 units, and Chery production dropped to 3,156 units from 3,362 units. The Tracker model showed a slight increase, reaching 18,519 units compared to 18,079 units last year.
