A sixth-grader's video appeal drew public attention after she addressed a district official (DM), explaining that her father serves on the border and their home lacks electricity. This situation occurred in the Akbarpur area, in the Krishna Nagar village of Kanpur Dehat.
Appeal for Basic Needs
In the video, Ayat stated that she is the daughter of a soldier serving in Nagaland. She emphasized that their house is very close to the official's residence, yet they have not been connected to the power supply. The girl requested electricity because the lack of light creates serious difficulties during the hot season and hinders her normal studies.
Attempts to Resolve the Issue
Ayat's mother, Asma Khan, reported that the family has been trying to get an electricity connection for many months. Her husband serves in the Indian Army and is currently stationed in Nagaland. When he returns home on leave, they approach the power company, but the matter is postponed for some reason each time.
According to Asma, the application for a new electricity connection was submitted on April 24, 2026. Despite this, the connection has still not been provided. The family was informed that an assessment fee of about 82 thousand rupees is required. Due to the family's weak financial condition, collecting such a large sum is extremely difficult. Furthermore, there is an electricity pole near the house, indicating the presence of a line, but the actual connections are missing.
Consequences of No Power
Asma Khan stated that she was forced to install solar panels, but they only cover limited needs and do not work during cloudy weather or insufficient sunlight. This particularly affects the children's education. In the heat, the fan does not work at night, disrupting the children's sleep. She noted that while her husband serves the country, their family faces difficulties due to such a basic service as electricity.
Administration's Reaction
After the girl's video went viral, the issue was brought to the attention of the district administration. District Magistrate (DM) Kapil Singh stated that he is aware of the situation. He announced that he would request a report from the chief engineer of the power company to conduct an inspection and subsequently take action in accordance with established rules.
