CCB Foundation announces accessibility plan with €2.9 million investment

Specifically, CCB detailed the execution of an Accessibility Plan that includes structural renovation throughout the campus. Interventions include the replacement of elevators (already underway), the installation of new lifts, the expansion of adaptation for dressing rooms and bathrooms, in addition to improving signage and accessible communication, all budgeted at over 2.9 million euros.

Funding and Execution

The administration emphasized that the search for external funding aims to accelerate and expand these large-scale financial structural interventions. Concurrently, CCB continues to execute the Plan using its own resources for immediate priorities, while other actions will be carried out in stages, depending on the necessary technical and financial conditions. It was mentioned that an exclusive elevator has already been installed at the Artists' Entrance of the Performance Center.

Additionally, the text clarified that funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan were exclusively allocated to energy efficiency measures, according to the program's standards, and cannot be applied to accessibility projects.

Recognition and History of Complaints

The foundation also emphasized the recognition and appreciation of the contributions of specialized entities and artists—especially those with disabilities, whose experience is crucial for identifying obstacles and optimizing institutional responses—as well as everyone who promotes a more inclusive culture.

For its part, Acesso Cultura reiterated that it has maintained contact with various CCB administrations since 2015 to promote improvements in the cultural facility's accessibility conditions, but assesses that the advances achieved have been insufficient. The association pointed out that there are recurring complaints, dating back to 2018, made by disabled artists about the access and working conditions at CCB. An accessibility diagnosis conducted by the entity in 2015 generated improvements in public spaces but left pending interventions related to backstage areas, artists' workspaces, and programming.
