The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra has taken strict measures against one of the well-known ice cream shops in Mumbai. As a result of the inspection, the operating permit for the Rustam park located in the Churchgate area was revoked.
Reasons for Suspension of Operations
This decision was made due to alleged violations of food hygiene and safety standards. According to the news agency PTI, FDA officials discovered serious deficiencies in sanitary conditions during the inspection.
Violations Found and Official Actions
Live rats and flies were found inside the ice cream park premises. After identifying the violations, the FDA revoked the establishment's license. Furthermore, the administration took product samples for further analysis, and while results have not yet been received, the park remains prohibited from operating.
The operation was conducted by a team from the department on behalf of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Munde as part of the 'Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra' campaign. During the raids, expired goods were discovered, including puree, sweet orange, cherry, almond, American soda, and fruit mix. Government officials destroyed these products on the spot to prevent their use in the ice cream.
Raw Material Quality Issues
A previous report from an external laboratory had established that the milk fat content was only 7.94 percent, whereas the standard set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India requires at least 10 percent.
