Casa Tenjin, a development located in Tenjinmae-cho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan, was renovated while maintaining the essence of a traditional Japanese house.
This building is operated by the Keiyuugyo hotel chain and originally constituted a typical wooden residence known as a machiya, dating back to the beginning of the Showa period. In the recent renovation, the spatial typology of the machiya was used as the guiding principle for the project.
The work focused on clarifying the logical structure of the house and restructuring its spatial organization. Through a restrained architectural language, the project managed to reintegrate the various functions, internal spaces, and the very experience of living in the location.
The project for the Hapjeong Artplex Multifunctional Building was presented by the design team and is located in Hapjeong-dong, an area recognized as a prominent cultural and commercial center in northwest Seoul.
The building is situated in a diverse urban environment, characterized by the coexistence of old residential areas with the dynamics and changes of modern commerce. This scenario is notably influenced by the proximity of the YG Entertainment headquarters, which was designed by UNStudio.
