The LAGO project, which is configured as an Italian family kitchen, was developed by Vari Architects. The architectural intervention is located on the shores of Yihe Park's lake, situated in the northern region of Chongqing.
The objective was to transform an existing seaside pavilion into an Italian cuisine restaurant. To achieve this, materials such as permeable wood and light metal molded in a wave shape were used. The establishment is positioned among cedar trees and overlooks an illuminated lake, whose name derives from the Italian word for 'lake'.
Initially, the architects conceived the space inspired by Thoreau's cabin at Walden Pond, evoking images of clear water, deep shade, and winding trails. However, due to the context of Yihe Park, which represents 'nature within the city,' the focus shifted to solving the challenge of incorporating the tranquility and clarity characteristic of Walden into the architectural narrative of the site itself.
